platinum iridium marker bands (Pt/Ir): The Pt/Ir alloy is a high-strength, biocompatible metal that has excellent X-ray and fluorescence properties. Moreover, it is resistant to oxidation and corrosion, making it an ideal material for a variety of applications in the medical industry.

Edgetech Industries LLC manufactures radiopaque marker bands from platinum-iridium alloy (Pt90/Ir10), gold and pure tantalum. They are cut into lengths, down to 0.25 mm according to client’s demands via an original process that guarantees high precision and a burr-free finish.

The radiopaque bands are often used to help surgeons guide catheters in the body during procedures. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes, providing superior visibility under fluoroscopy.

Pelham, NH-based contract manufacturer Edgetech Industries employs an RF welding system from Vante Biopharm to embed the marker bands in a 0.184-inch outer diameter shaft of Pebax-brand thermoplastic elastomer. Its catheters are designed to track through complex anatomy and cross difficult lesions.

Embedding the band into the tip of the catheter makes it virtually unbreakable, and it allows for passage through all of the body’s different types of fluids. It also prevents sharp edges from interfering with the insertion of the catheter, which is important during angioplasty and other minimally invasive procedures.

The growing number of catheter-related procedures and the need to minimize complications are driving growth in the medical marker bands market. Moreover, the availability of a wide range of materials that can be integrated into catheters is expected to boost this market in the near future.
