calcium boride (CaB6) is an important compound of calcium and boron. It is a highly conductive, high-temperature material that is used as an electrode (cathode) material and as a promising candidate for n-type thermoelectric materials. It is also used as an alloying agent in boron-alloyed steel and as a deoxidation agent in the production of oxygen-free copper. In addition to being an excellent cathode material, calcium hexaboride also serves as a protective boride coating in carbon-bonded refractories. It is an effective antioxidant, which extends the service life of magnesium oxide bricks and other carbon-bonded refractory materials. It can also be used as a boron-containing additive to dolomite and magnesium dolomite refractories to resist corrosion, enhance strength and improve thermal conductivity.

/Chemical Properties and Applications:

The chemical properties of calcium hexaboride make it an excellent n-type thermoelectric material. It is used as an electrode (cathode) in boron-alloyed steel, as a deoxidation agent in the formation of oxygen-free copper and as an antioxidant in carbon-bonded refractories.

Biologically Essential:

The mineral calcium is an important component of human bones and teeth. It is also an essential part of many industrial materials, such as cement and mortar. Taking calcium supplements can help people with osteoporosis or other bone conditions. It can also reduce the rate of bone loss in postmenopausal women and people who have low levels of estrogen. It is important to read the label of any supplement before consuming it, since some contain vitamins or other ingredients that may not be safe for you. It is also a good idea to ask your health care provider about any possible interactions between different ingredients.
